DIY LED Modules for BBC Micro:Bit

DIY LED Modules

Lets start with LEDs!

Turning on an LED is usually the first electronic achievement for robotics enthusiasts. Regular LEDs are very cheap and fun to use but they are rather fragile on its own so I prepared a simple method thet lets you turn an of the shelf 10mm LED into an easy to make and cheap LED module that is reusable and durable so great for classroom experiments.

DIY Led Modules are basic extension to the micro:Bit that allows you to build basic robots with no extra electronic equipment. All you need is a Micro:Bit and a 2 x AAA battery pack.

You can connect up to three LED Modules to P0, P1, P2 pins.

What you need to make a DIY LED Module:

  1. 10mm diameter LED in different colors – they are harder to get that the most popular 3mm diameter models, but look much cooler 😉
  2. 4x2cm piece of thick plastic – I used car windshield washer fluid container
  3. Two M3 12m bolts and M3 nuts
  4. Alligator clips cables for connections
